Schooling -Helps or Interferes?

I believe schooling helps with children's personal growth. They learn how to be independent learners. They are willing to try new things on their own. Students learn social skills and learn how to get along with others. Children also learn to share, be considerate of others, and they learn how to be responsible for their actions. In the real world they will need these social skills that they have learned throughout their school years.

I think younger children learn more through hands on activities. However, older students may learn more by reading a book. I believe just as adults have different learning styles, children do as well. Every student will not grasp the information the same way. That is why teachers should be open to teaching in different ways to reach all of the children.

I am a visual learner. If I can look at the material over time I will eventually learn it. I like to be able to review the material, highlight important details, or make my own notes on it.

I work in Kindergarten, so my children learn new things everyday. My teacher and I are helping our kids learn how to write sentences. Everyday I play word wall games with the students. These games are keeping learning fun, while still review the words that they should know before leaving Kindergarten. In smaller groups or one on one, my teacher and I have taught the children to put the words together to make a sentence. Now our students are writing two sentences by themselves.

  1. You are exactly right! I love the face that you play the word wall games with your kids. That sounds like so much fun! I al glad that you think that schooling help children because I have talked to a few people outside of class and they think that it interferes. I do not agree with them at all. I bet working in kintergarden is very interesting, as rewarding!

  2. Word wall words are a fun way to make sentences. It encourages creativity and some freedom in what the students write about. Games are a great way to teach kids things. . . or get them to do anything. Even cleaning up is more fun when you make it a game. Kindergarten is such a fun grade, everything is still new and exciting.

  3. I really don't see how schooling could be done without! It helps so much more than it could hurt. Kids have to interact with one another! I think that it is maybe 'easier' to make things fun at the younger grades. Like Amanda said, you can even make cleaning up fun. You can't convince me of that now, though. But I still clean, because it's rewarding in a diffrent way - and it has to be done!

  4. Chidren will benefit from going to school many ways. Playing is the main key for young children learning. I also think that children can learn better hands on. There is no better feeling than knowing that you made a difference in a child life because you taught them something that will help them in the future.

  5. Kindergarten is a great age group to work with. I have taught a K-1 class before and it was a lot of fun. To teach younger children in the classroom does require a lot of hands on activities. I enjoy feeling like a kid again when I am in the classroom. I must say, it is not for everyone.

  6. I do a lot new and creative things with my first graders also. Being a a public school setting can be very beneficial in many ways. As a teacher, I get see my students learn and a become more self aware of who they are. My children will get to play with the other other in the classroom and increase their social skills. The children will be able to go to different resource classes, such as library and P.E., to increase their grade skills.
