I want to be a teacher because I believe I can make a difference in the lives of children. I want them to get that hug or smile first thing in the morning when they walk into the classroom. Many children may not get that attention at home and they just need someone to care. I am a teacher's assistant in kindergarden. I love my job very much. I have ideas from time to time that I will offer my teacher. I feel I have great ideas, but I am limited because I am not the teacher. Having my own classroom would allow me to be more creative.
I was a talker in second grade, so the teacher put my desk right beside hers. It made me feel isolated from the rest of the class. This is a memory that sticks out in my mind from my years in school.
My favorite teacher was a seventh grade science teacher. She was very nice to me in her class. This teacher always had a postive attitude toward her students. Most of the time, her lessons were very interesting. I think everyone loved this teacher.

That is a great reason to become a teacher! And you have a good start too. Will you stay in kindergarden classes?
ReplyDeleteI was never a talker, I'm still not. But I do remember that happening to other students though my student life. I remember a couple of times the girls would cry. I always felt bad for them.
I think that when a teacher is good, everyone likes them. I don't remember hearing anything but good things about the teachers I liked so much.
I agree completely with your reason to become a teacher! To have "my" kids come in every morning and say, 'good morning, I missed you,'and give me a hug is so nice.
ReplyDeleteI think when teachers have positive attitudes and try to make even the most boring subjects interesting, everyone likes them. The challenge is figuring out how to make the most boring subjects interesting.
Having been an assistant teacher myself, I want to encourage you! The difference between being the assistant and being THE teacher is amazing. Like you, I always felt very limited because I was not the teacher and sometimes it was very discouraging. Obviously you're well on your way to becoming a teacher and I admire that.
Hey Kimberly,
ReplyDeleteI am surprised your teacher doesn't use you as a valuable asset. Unless she just has a surplus of good ideas, I think you would be an wonderful tool. Ya'll could help each other. It is the highlight of my day when the children come in and smile because they are happy to be there. I work with infants so when they are happy to stay with me and smile when they see me I know they feel safe and trust me.
I had a teacher who singled me out too. It really changed the way I felt about him. I was so upset when he yelled at me and made me sit in the hall for talking when it wasn't even me. I was sitting next to the girl talking and he thought it was me. I was so upset because he called me out, embarrassed me, and then threw me out. It was very traumatic for me because that was the first time anything like that had happened.
Wow, that really sucks that you got punished by getting your desk put right beside the teachers! That really sucks! The kids who talked usually got in trouble. So I was never much of a talker. I loved teachers who made their lessons interesting! It made me more interested in school and what was going on. I hope that when I become a teacher I am one who does very creative and interesting lessons so that way the kids do not get bored.
ReplyDeleteDoes the teacher you work with know that you have ideas? I worked with a teacher who knew I had ideas and didn't want them; but I also worked with one that was thrilled to have my input. Maybe if you presented her with some of your ideas in a non-threatening way she'd be open to implementing some of them!
ReplyDeleteA person would think that chidren get a lot of affection at home but some of them don't. Sometimes a good teacher is the only thing some children have to show them some type of affection and make them feel like someone love them. That is a very sad thing to say but it is true.
